Ghana Trash USA 2 - 1 at the 2016 Fifa Under-17 Women's World Cup

Coach Evans Adotey's side recorded their first win of the U17 Women's World Cup on Tuesday

Ghana came from behind to hand the USA a 2-1 defeat in their second group game at the 2016 Fifa Under-17 Women's World Cup in Jordan on Tuesday.

An 84th minute penalty by Sandra Owusu-Ansah secured maximum points for the Black Maidens after Frankie Tagliaferri and Gifty Acheampong had cancelled out each other at the King Abdullah II International Stadium, Amman.

Following Saturday's 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Japan in the group opener, Ghana coach Evans Adotey made one change to his starting line-up, with Ampem Darkoa Ladies defender Mawia Uwaisa replacing Linda Amoako.

The Americans, however, kept faith with the side that handed Paraguay a 6-1 humiliation.
Upon commencement of the game, BJ Snow's charges wasted no time in announcing their intentions of making it two out of two, with Tagliaferri breaking the deadlock on just five minutes.

The attacker received a pass for Paraguay hat-trick hero Civana Kuhlmann before firing a low shot beyond the reach of Ghana goalkeeper Kayza Massey.

Back from recess, Ghana duo Rafia Kulchirie and Sandra Owusu-Ansah tested USA shot-stopper Laurel Ivory in their quest for an equalizer.

However, Gifty Acheampong did not fail to get on target on her attempt, heading home a cross from Adizatu Mustapha after Ivory had failed to collect the in-swinger in the 63rd minute.

The Americans came close to restoring their lead four minutes later, but Ashley Sanchez was unfortunate to see her strike from 20 yards rattle the crossbar.

Ghana, though, had a better luck, netting the winner from an Owusu-Ansah spot-kick six minutes to full time after Kiara Pickett handled in the box.

The result leaves Ghana tied on points with the Americans ahead of the last group matches on Saturday.
