Why do We Have an Issue With Don Moen's Participation in Ghana @60 Celebrations? - Johnnie Hughes

Since the news about  American gospel singer/songwriter Don Moen's participation in this year's Ghana @60 aniversary celebrations broke, there has been several backlashes from great Ghanaian entertainment gurus and public figures disagreeing to the fact that his appearance as the headline artist is not needed, because there are gospel singers in this country who can write and sing as good as he does.

But Radio and TV Personality Johnnie Beresford Hughes does not seem to have an issue with Don Moen's participation. He shared his views on social media by asking some key questions pertaining to the fact. He wrote:

"Why do we have an issue with Don Moen's participation in our 60th dependence anniversary celebrations:

1. When we are constantly imitating him and other obroni gospel singers even in or recordings?

2. When almost all our churches, save 'awoyo', 'aladura', 'mosama' etc... Are busy singing obroni songs, to the extent that some Christians even think that if you can't sing through your nose or don't know some obroni song then you are not a 'spirito' or believer?

3. When we were happy to accept his help aid to rural Ghana at a time when we are busy debating whether to educate our children for free or not?

4. When Sonnie Badu is not a British, but he is a big artiste in the UK? And we are happy that our artists grace other stages and are penetrating the circles of obronikrom?

5. When we have allowed Don Moen to mentor and influence many churches and in this land? What were we thinking?

6. When did gospel artistes and their promoters and assigns become racists? To the extent that they will feel spited by this?
