I Take The Biggest Risk Whenever I collaborate With Other Rappers - Sarkodie

When it comes to “The Highest” you just bow down to greatness. Apparently one of the ridiculous statements I make when it comes to Ghana’s own rap King, Sarkodie. Arguably the most decorated Ghanaian artiste, Sarkodie born Michael Owusu Addo has had a busy year, with the latter releasing his 5th studio album “Highest” and making moves with it. The rapper who is currently on a nationwide campus tour with MTN Ghana recently granted an interview with BBC’s DJ Edu on “Destination Africa” show.

An interview, Ghana's showbiz hub www.elormonline.com followed attentively, because we care about our industry and we follow our players keenly. Listening to the show, VGMA Artiste of the year (2010, 2012) stated that rappers do collaborations with competition in mind, “When it comes to rappers, we think more of, who’s going to stand out and not how good the song is supposed to be. There’s no way Tekno will go like, make sure you don’t kill it. Because he feels like there’s no competition. When it comes to an emcee to an emcee, for me not because I’m here but, I don’t really mind whoever sends me a record.”. 


He further stressed that, his life is always on the line when he did collaborations with other rappers, because he doesn’t hear their verses before doing his. “Like most of the records you hear me do verses on, I don’t really hear the other party’s verse. And in my world, that’s risky. Cause you can’t change it. So, when it goes, and the person has it, the person can study that and make sure they come out with some deadly venom. Way better than yours so you always put your life on the line when you go out there. But for me I think it’s ultimate confidence. I just feel like, I like my voice, I’m my own biggest fan. So, when I’m doing records, I’m not really thinking about who’s on the record, I just feel like anything I touch, and I want to do it, I give it my one hundred percent”.

Surprisingly, he manages to deliver almost all the time better than those he collaborates on songs with. We can use “Fire Bon Dem Remix” as a case study whereby fans thought that Sarkodie did better than Flowking Stone owner of the song. Coming from King Sark as he’s fondly referred to by fans, we believe it’s a form of motivation to our Ghanaian rappers to always be on top of their game.

Ghana's "Most Original" dancehall artist Stonebwoy broke his own record yesterday when he pulled over 70,000 fans and lovers of his music at the Saka Saka Park in Ashaiman for the fifth edition of his annual 'Ashaiman To The World Concert'. The show which recorded its biggest patronage last year saw that record broken yesterday as thousands more of Bhimnation fans across Ghana thronged the park to show love and support for their hero Stonebwoy.
