The people of Damanko township in the northern region of Ghana couldn't believe their eyes when a huge hipopotamus was captured in river Oti last week.
According to an eye, the animal has become a nuisance to the millet farmers along the bank of the river, it grazes a large potion of their millet plantation. After carefully monitoring how it graze, its foot steps and where it passes to the farm, the farmers are convinced that its a hippopotamus that was destroying their crops.
Knowing how huge the animal is and fear, they invited a powerful hunter from Togo who is also a native of Damanko to hunt it down. The hunter went to the farm area and in some fierce encounter, he was able to kill it. The hunter said he saw the animal from a distance and before he could realise, its just a few metres closer to him so he hid within the millet (Juju at play) and gave it one shot and down it fell dead. amazingly there are no bullet penetrations on its body.
The whole town trooped to the scene to have a glimpe of it, some rituals were performed and it was taking away.
