OffBeat: 12 Camels Disqualified In A Beauty Contest In Saudi Arabia For Cheating

12 camels have been disqualified from the annual King Abdulaziz Camel Festival in Saudi Arabia due to use of Botox. According to reports, the camels were banned from the contest after it was discovered that they had used Botox.

A handbook that was issued to beauty contest entrants last year noted that camels with injections in the lips, or those with shaved or dyed parts of the body, or with any sort of manipulations to their natural form are not allowed to participate in the contest.

"The camel is a symbol of Saudi Arabia, we used to prefer it out of necessity, now we preserve it as a pastime" chief judge of the show Fawzan al-Madi said in an interview with Reuters".
According to Saudi Arabian Live, Camel beauty contests are a serious business in Saudi Arabia. 213 million riyals ($57 million) is up for grabs hence there is a great temptation to cheat for people.

Miss Camel gets 112 million riyals ($30 million), to pursue the life it always dreamed of.
